Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has expanded its DMF series lineup of Electrical Double Layer Capacitors (EDLCs), with addition of 1,000mF model with low ESR. Part number DMF4B5R5G105M3DTA0 is rated 5.5V peak and 4.2V constant operation. It has an equivalent series resistance (ESR) of 40 mOhms, measures 14mm X 30mm X 3.7mm and is rated to operate from -40 to +70 degrees C. This new EDLC is expected to be used in a variety of peak-power, load-leveling and power backup applications.

Murata’s EDLC can assist peak power for applications which require momentary peak power. It enables to downsize various power supplies. In addition, when using EDLC with battery or power supply which has limited power, high power function can be added to application or application quality can be improved. Peak power applications are expected to include: smart gas and water meter (wireless communication, valve operation), LED flash, IR sensor, intermittent operation of motor applications, high power wireless communication (handy terminal, tracking devices, etc.)
